Ready, Set, Poem

No NANOWRIMO for me this year. Instead, I'm gearing up to take on the Poem A Day Challenge over at Poetic Asides. The rules are HERE if anyone cares to join me.

In a nutshell, a poetry prompt will be posted every day over at the Poetic Asides blog, and a prompt every day thereafter until November 30 or mental meltdown, whichever comes first.

My challenge to myself is to come up with thirty or more poems that I can spend my winter editing. I did this last year, so to make it more interesting for myself, I'm going to write a haiku or tanka  a day also.

Recent reading on this subject has included:

Modern Japanese Tanka edited by Makoto Ueda

A Long Rainy Season Haiku and Tanka: Contemporary Women's Poetry Volume I edited by Leza Lowitz,Miyuki Aoyanna, Akemi Tomioka

The Haiku Handbook: How To Write, Share, and Teach Haiku by William J. Higginson

River of Stars: Selected Poems of Yosano Akiko Translated by Sam Hamill and Keiko Matsui Gibson

Anyone interested in joining me on this adventure? You've only your marbles to lose. Either way, it makes for an interesting November. I know, I'm doing it to myself, but hey, poetical self-flagellation is one of the kinder ways out there of beating yourself up. Haven't decided how I will be reporting my progress, but I won't be posting much in the way of poems, completed or raw. I want some available for later submissions. So method and madness will likely be what you get to read, doG help you.

Onward to November, and poetry.

Your faithful follower(s) would like to know;
1.How do you find time to do all the things you do?
2.Is "doG" = "God" and if so what is the spiritual meaning if any of the reversal.
3. Did you walk to work or bring your lunch?

Anon -
1 - I'm hyperactive
2 - doG can = God, or not. The spirituality in doG is the spirituality you put there
3 - I bring my lunch. Walking to work would be an exercise in both futility and suicidality in this town...
