Fragment Friday - Post Candy Let Down Edition

It's still nice enough in November to play bouncyball outside - at least a few times before dark settles in.

1.  It feels like we're running full tilt at December. Christmas crap was out before Halloween, and the days flick past like pages in a flip book. I'm still eating Tootsie Roll pops from the candy trick or treaters never came and collected.

2.  'Tis the season of soups and stews. And homemade breads. The most recent was French Onion soup made in the slow cooker, and sourdough bread. Have you got any favorite soup or bread recipes for the slow slide into winter?

3.  I've been trying to feel my way back into making art, and part of that has been drawing in a sketchbook with marker or gel pen. I like that I can't get too anal about images, that a failed line can add character, and most of all the graphic quality to the artwork. A good warmup for more printmaking, and a far cry from overly detailed pencil drawings.

4.  Debating a change in house flooring from carpet to laminate. Allergy doctor says this will be a Good Thing. I guess the copious Corgi hair gets balled up in the corners, then?
Anyone have any experience with laminate floors? Anything I need to know?

5.  The poetry muse has been working overtime at my house, shooting ideas with a water gun. Sometimes I get plastered against the wall, sometimes I catch it in the face. At least, with laminate flooring, I won't end up dripping wet on the living room rug...

Wood floors are better. I have laminate tho, couldn't afford wood. Okay in my experience.

That's why I'm going laminate. Wood is so expensive. Frankly, my house isn't worth wood...

Allergies here too.

Wrote two poems in the middle of the night last night, both about trains!

Love reading your blog :)

We ripped out our carpet in our living room/hallway this year and replaced it with acacia wood. The difference is huge! We breathe better. All the crap that went out the door with that old carpet was unbelievable. We had laminate in our dining room before (that also got replaced with wood) and it was fine except that it faded. But we had it there for 15 years. We also have a Swiffer that we pick up dog hair with every couple of days. That works really well.

KC - Glad you can stop by. Keep writing those poems!

Kathleen - I'm not sure there's a Swiffer big enough for Corgi hair...

Love this: a failed line can add character. True about so much in life!

I have lots of failed lines. Artistic and written. :)

Hard floors are definitely better for asthma/allergy than carpet. It's not so much the Corgi hair you can see as all the minute dust particles that you can't. If you don't want to change all at once, what about trying one or two rooms to see if you like it first? Dust in bedrooms is particualry bad for allergies, if I remember rightly, so might be worth starting with the bedroom to see how you get on.

Soup recipes: how about butternut squash soup, tomato and bean soup or mulligatwny soup?
