What's in YOUR Basement?

I've found some strange things in my basement at times, besides the usual assorted spider and creepy crawly. While housesitting recently I found something downstairs that put my dislike of spiders in perspective. Luckily, I was warned in advance about the residents of the lower realms.

I love African wildlife. I really do. But my exposure was mainly through pictures, video, and the occasional trip to the zoo. None of that gives you the true perspective on how big some of those animals really are. Now I know. So, considering myself informed, I decided to document one of the scarier residents of the Belowlevels.

Which begs the question, what's in YOUR basement?

Definitely no buffalo. :)

Well, let's see. Old moving boxes, a black and white TV, an Atari computer, a bicycle, a box with drills, screwdrivers, hammers, soldering equipment and other assorted fun a girl isn't supposed to know how to use, a stove that might set the house on fire but surely won't cook anything, some empty flower pots ..... oh, and cobwebs. Big sticky, grey, cobwebs plus the spiders that go with them. Big hairy, black spiders.

And I suspect a few gnomes. :)

Are they YOUR gnomes, or visiting gnomes? I know I would share the wealth if I had a gnome infestation....

I have no idea where they come from, but I'm tempted to pull a Harry Potter on them. :)

Careful, they may be like house elves and have powers you don't know about. :)

You mean they'll hide socks from me? :)

C,

I don't have a basement in this new rental in Greater Fresno (!). But, the house is now filled to the gills with stuff that we had shipped over from our lovely home (now rented out) in Massachusetts. So, things from our basement that are now in our home...

Half of broom handle. A broken tricycle. A thing. An entire box of used, padded envelopes. Several license plates. Some bricks. A three thousand dollar treadmill without the key thingy that turns it on. A tool. Some coupons. Several thousand books.

By this I honestly mean to say that we got sent a lot of shit. (Books not included.)

Advice: try not to move house from a removed location. (This list does not include the variety of things MISSING from our basement.)

Anyway...

David,

I thought you had 8-legged house guests in your basement, too?
Someone sent you bricks and half a broom handle? Weird. :)

I never knew treadmills had keys. Yet another way to defeat the urge to exercise.

Those 8-legged friends were in the garage, actually, and we've moved from that place already.

Now in Fresno, where I've killed three black widows to date. More soon!

I have teenagers in my basement. Much worse than spiders...
