Oceans Away
by Constance Brewer

I live one thousand miles
away from the nearest sea
So tell me why I hear at night
the waves pound by degree?
I feel the deep dark pull of tide
that breaks against the shore
So if I live on the prairie
why do I have surf rapport?

Even though a sea shell is miles from shore, it still sings the ocean song... Nicely done poem!

I suffer from "surf rapport" so I'm thinking I need a vacation. :) Nice job!

Cool poem! I'm sorry to sound like a broken record but "surf rapport" is a clever ending.

Very effective presentation of the questions, thanks.

lisa & mike mc - thanks. Chalk it up to failed iambic pentameer and the longing for being somewhere that isn;t on fire. :)

What you wrote is very true! I guess we do create the world around us and experience what we feel to be experiencing. Nice poem!

Hi Constance -- Really nice poem! I love the line "I feel the deep dark pull of tide". And I started thinking how our bodies are something like 80% water -- the moon pulls the tides and so it's bound to pull the tide inside us too. Maybe that's the waves that you hear pounding at night??!!

It's whimsical and poignant at the same time. Longing resonates.
