Fragment Friday

Spring melt

1.  Well, we escaped the wrath of another spring storm. It dropped an inch of snow instead of fifteen inches and moved on. Next on the agenda is rain. And boy do we need it.

2.  The Corgis went to the groomer and got all spiffed up. They even smelled pretty for a few days. But now Merlin has run the fence line and churned snow into mud, so his undercarriage isn't as pristine as it was. I always love when their whites are show dog white. No pictures with bandanas this time around, sorry.

3.  Wrote the shortest short story I've written in years, it only came to about 2000 words. Maybe all these years of poetry writing is paying off. Short and more succinct.
4.  I've been working my way through a bunch of books I have on my Kindle. Mostly fantasy and scifi, with some historical thrown in. In hardcover/paperback, I tend to mostly read non-fiction. So do you have an e-reader? What types of things do you read on it?

5.  Impatiently waiting for the promised new restaurants in town to be built. I want some different choices when I go out to eat. Worst case scenario, I drive 140 miles to the next big town to get my 'different' fix. How far would you drive for a decent dinner?

If I had to go 140 miles for a different decent dinner, I would be working harder to be a stunning cook on my own! Yikes! But I like to cook, so I guess I wouldn't go far for a new place to eat and I have the luxury of living in a metropolitan area with a lot of choices.
Anyway. I got a Nook so that I wouldn't subscribe to so many periodicals - one of my big addictions - but I use the reader more for books because I still love the glossy magazine pages more than the Nook's spiffy screen. I do love to read books on it and I prefer to read the things that I'll probably not read again, like light fiction or humor. I do have some heavier books on hit, like Malcolm Gladwell's Blink (which I had a hard copy of but loaned out and now it's gone forever). Hmm. That's one way to hang on to my books. Not all the e-reader versions are loanable. Ha! Not that I need to hang onto them all, mind you. Just sayin'.

Not that we're not good cooks, but sometimes we like to let someone else prepare the meal. :) Unfortunately, the someone elses with skill are out of town. We did find a place only 101 miles away...

I don't loan out books any more, for just that reason. They go MIA. I read more fiction on my Kindle than ever, but I still prefer my 'keeper' books in dead tree format.

Long time no see - or read, I guess. There are nights I would drive whatever it takes for a different and decent dinner. I once drove from Northern Vermont to southern for what was said to be the best chicken and waffles. And you know what? It was - probably cuz I was so hungry after the drive! :)

Explain chicken and waffles to me. Is it sweet? Is is savory? What is the attraction? It doesn't sound good to me, but people I know swear by it.
Did you eat good seafood on your trip? :)

Chicken and waffles find the balance of being both sweet and savory at once. Perhaps that's the attraction? It goes well with a beer too. Give it a try sometime - I was hesitant to check it out at first too. Just seemed to weird. Yes, I ate lots of good seafood on my trip. In fact, I still am - eating seafood and still on my trip! Trying to put up a couple posts, but it's been slow going....

I just can't wrap my head around the chicken and waffles thing. Maybe you have to grow up with it.

No good seafood in Wyoming. Next trip to the east coast I'll have to have some.

Try the chicken & waffles thing sometime if you see it on the menu. I didn't grow up with it either and was resistant to try, but oh man, is it good!

I've been parked in Boston since April Fools Day and have enjoyed their lobster rolls and yummy chowder. The ballpark franks at Fenway are good too! ;-)

Oohhhh, I'm jealous. I always wanted to go to a ball game at Fenway.
