Here are five writing fragments I have in my files for you to play with. What ideas do they trigger?
1. Fox-pelt hair cascaded in waves from the peak of a high forehead.
2. Skin as smooth and heavy as a shot glass.
3. The hose, in looped rattlesnake coils, waited on the grass.
4. He wasn’t the first to fry an egg on the summer sidewalk, nor would he be the last, but Bob doubted anyone else’s pavement eggs were as tasty as his.
5. Merle was obsessed with bees, and in time convinced himself he was immune to their venom.

Fragment Friday
1. I know I’m gearing up for writing poetry again when I start reading poets and poetry analysis instead of a novel.
2. Rereading the Harry Potter novels and enjoying them just as much this time around as the first time.
3. We had a bird in the house – a live bird. A smart bird that hid behind a bookshelf until we could rescue him. I have a sneaking suspicion the cat invited him in. The cat’s not talking.
4. Somewhere between extreme heat outside and the very cold inside is a happy medium. It must be very small because I haven’t been able to find it yet.
5. Now and then I find a word so stupend-fabulo-acular I beg it to be put in a poem. What’s interesting is that the word usually resists, kicking and biting the other words. Sometimes the chaos makes magic, but usually not.

Fragment Friday
I wish the mere thought of going to the gym translated into a workout…
Some days it’s time to tune to the oldies rock station, other days it’s the most annoying channel on the planet.
Do you ever find yourself repeating a tagline from a commercial while using the product? Scary, isn’t it?
Some days I want to write my job orders in haiku
Must pass drug test
or no employment
forthcoming
Our new office building has two air conditioning settings – Deep Freeze and Arctic Chill

Soliloquy Sunday
(Like Fragment Friday, but starting with an "I")
I didn't realize having children meant I would become permanent tech support for their computers, also.
I figured out how to make the Corgis disappear! I mentioned one of them needed a bath and next thing I know, both of them were gone, hiding.
I haven't read nearly enough Walt Whitman. I think sometimes you aren't ready for a poet and when the time comes that you are, you know. I'm sure there are other poets out there who suffer from my neglect. Still reading Rilke and practicing my German so I can tackle some non-translated versions of his work.
I don't read very many mystery novels, which is weird because I love a good puzzle. Any recommendations?
I guess the Fourth of July does not fall into my Top Ten Holiday list. Too noisy, for one. Not to mention it's usually hot enough to bubble paint.
I'm happy there is a baseball game on tv almost every day. Otherwise there wouldn't be anything to watch...
